High pressure strips shingle granules and takes years off a roof. I use a soft brush and moss-killing powder.
The moss keeps dying after I leave
The powder keeps working after I leave, through the next wet season.
Gutters cleared as I go
Everything brushed off the roof gets cleared out of the gutters, not left packed in.
Careful access
I work from the edge and ladder where I can, rather than walking a wet, mossy roof.
Landscaping covered
Anything under the drip line gets covered or rinsed so nothing sits on your plants.
Clean, not stripped
A roof that looks its age without the moss and streaking — not scoured back to bare shingle.
TIMING
When to treat roof moss in Western Washington
The best time is fall, right before the heavy rain settles in. The powder works with the rain, so if it goes down in October or November it keeps killing moss through the whole wet season after I leave.
It’s a lot cheaper to stay ahead of moss than to deal with it after a whole winter of growing. Light growth only needs a blow-off and powder. Moss that’s had all winter to dig in has to be brushed off first, and that takes a lot longer.
If you’re getting your gutters cleaned after the leaves come down in November, I can do the roof on the same visit.
